Become an outdoor vendor in the ByWard Market

The ByWard Market offers two different outdoor vending categories – agri-food and art & craft.
Each of these categories are made up of different sub-categories, recognizing the different characteristics that make up these products.
All vending inquiries should be directed to Markets Management: 613-244-4410

Agri-food

Agri-food is made up of four different sub-categories: farmers (AF1), farmer-vendors (AF2), vendors (AF3), and new in 2017, microprocessors (MP). Each sub-category is indicated on a sign located at the top of the vendor’ stand. Agri-food vendors are mainly found on ByWard and George Streets. All applications are reviewed by the agri-food selection committee. It costs $75 to apply. Once approved, vendors are required to buy a license (valid for one year) at $75, and choose between daily or monthly permits, providing flexibility to those who cannot be present every day.

Daily permits are allocated every morning at 7:30am at the ByWard Market Information Kiosk while monthly permits give vendors the right to a specific stand for the duration of the month. Official application deadlines are March 1st (for the summer) and October 1st (for holiday season vending) but applications may be submitted at other times based on stand and agri-food selection committee availabilities.

Now accepting microprocessors!

A new agri-food category was recently added, based on feedback received from customers and potential vendors. Microprocessors selling small batch artisanal locally-transformed goods (for retail sales purposes only) can now apply to sell their products at the ByWard Market on a daily or monthly basis.

Art & Craft

Art & Craft is made up of four different sub-categories: artists (AC1), artist-vendors (AC2), artist-designers (AC3) and art & craft vendors (AC4). Artists and artist-vendors are mainly found on ByWard and William Streets, while artist-designers and art & craft vendors are located on York St. All products must be handmade and applications are reviewed after each application deadline by the art & craft selection committee. It costs $75 to apply. Once approved, vendors are required to buy a license (valid for one year) at $75, and choose between daily or monthly permits, providing flexibility to those who cannot be present every day.

Daily permits are allocated every morning at 9am at the ByWard Market Information Kiosk while monthly permits give vendors the right to a specific stand for the duration of the month. The main application deadline to start selling in the spring is March 1st, and a second application deadline of May 1st was recently added to accommodate those who cannot commit to the March 1st date. The last application deadline of October 1st is mainly made for those wishing to sell their products during the holiday season.

Buskers then need to purchase daily permits at a cost of $10/day (up to a maximum of 15 days or $150, after which you no longer need to pay until the end of the year). Spots are allocated daily at 8am (all performers except circle shows) and 11am (for circle shows only). Please note that musicians may not use voice amplification.
