OKTOBERFEST IN THE BYWARD MARKET

Did we mention the face painting, barrel racing, and enjoying live entertainment from the The Leiderhosers and the Schuhplattlers are all free? Well, they are! Returning this year are the Swiss alpine horn players, who will be touring the ByWard Market and performing at numerous locations. You never know where they will be! It's a great surprise each time. The Heritage Hands Ottawa Drum Club will be at 95 York at 2 p.m. 

Wagon rides are back! Cundell Stables, a working stable in the ByWard Market on York Street, will be providing free wagon rides, starting from George Street, near the Ottawa School of Art. Rides are on a "first come first serve" basis. Come early to get your spot!

A giant pumpkin is also set at York and ByWard Streets for you to visit. Take a picture and send it to the ByWard Market BIA's facebook so you can share it with everyone!

Volksmarch: Take a leisurely stroll through the ByWard Market by taking the path described here. A Volksmarch is a traditional non-competitive walk through the town, which originated in Europe. Many walking associations have taken on the Volksmarch as part of their programming, and what better way to celebrate Oktoberfest then by reinventing this time-honoured tradition to enjoy the historical ByWard Market. Special for 2012: The NFL Experience on York Street (between Dalhousie and William Streets)! The NFL Experience brings together interactive skills, educational ‘chalk talks’, NFL player appearances and the Samsung Hope for Children Kids Zone, giving fans the chance to put themselves in the NFL action.

Market Organics, 126 York Street, will be hosting a celebrity pumpkin carving contest. The draw will be helpd on Oct. 31 for the best voted pumpkin and the carver customer will both win a prize!

Continental Deli, 57 York Street, special Oktoberfest Hunter Stew will be available along with schnitzel sandwiches and goulash soup.

Sausage Kitchen, 5 ByWard Market, will be selling Oktoberfest Sausages outside on ByWard Market Square.

Aubrey's Meats, 59 York Street, is offering 10% off your purchase on Saturday October 20 to all non-coupon holders.

Special teas at Teastore, 53 York Street. Fall Medley & Autumn Orchard tea will be featured. 

Chateau Laffayette, 42 York Street, will be selling shots of Jagermeister all day for $4.75 (jagerbombs $5.00).

The Honest Lawyer, 141 George Street, will have an after-hours party beginning at 4 p.m. The Honest Lawyer will also be featuring free games and activities at the George Street tent, and will be selling pretzels too.
