It is with great excitement that we welcome all vendor categories back to our markets on June 11th.

What Does a Gradual Reopening Mean?

You will slowly see artisans, crafters, and other vendor categories return to our markets. This will be done gradually with the intention of getting people back into the swing of things in a safe and comfortable way.

Thank you to the entire community for your continued support!

Extended Hours for the York Street Farmers' Market!
8am-2pm.

In order to give vendors and shoppers more time to enjoy the market, we will be extending the hours of the York Street Farmers' Market to 8am-2pm.

Update on Busking:

The Marchés d'Ottawa Markets team is in the process of reviewing the best practices for reintroducing busking into the area under the current restrictions and looks forward to an exciting announcement in the coming weeks.

Closure of William Street:

William Street will be closing on June 14th in order to make room for the people, patios, and public seating that will be reintroduced into the ByWard Market in the coming weeks.

Community Spotlight:

As part of our Community Spotlight, we chatted with the Founder and CEO of Dairy Distillery, Omid McDonald who, with his partner, Neal McCarten (Director of Operations), conceived of and began this adventure.

We asked Omid the following questions:

When did you start your operation?

"Summer of 2018 and opened our doors on November 1, 2018."

How did you learn? Who taught you?

"We worked with experts at the University of Ottawa to figure out how to ferment the lactose in milk permeate."

What did you produce first?

"We focused on vodka (what we call Vodkow) at first."

What do you currently specialize in producing?

"We're making our vodka along with cream liquor. We also pivoted to making hand sanitizer at the start of the pandemic and continue to produce it today."

What’s the one thing that’s surprised you the most about your industry?

"How dynamic it is. There's always something to learn and you need to keep innovating."

What’s been your proudest moment as a producer?

"When we shipped our first batch of sanitizer to the Ottawa Hospital at the beginning of the pandemic."

What advice would you give to someone starting out in the industry?

"Nothing happens overnight, so be ready for a long haul."
