ByWard Barket
The ByWard Market District Authority (BMDA) is excited to announce the 9th annual ByWard Barket, a dog-friendly celebration featuring activities, entertainment, and local vendors, with a portion of the proceeds of BMDA vendor fees and 100% of claw machine tokens purchased at Pub 101 will be donated to Sit With Me Shelter Dog Rescue.
This event is set to bring together pet lovers, families, and community members in a day filled with canine fun.
The event will feature 30 pet-friendly businesses, including patios, where attendees can bring their dogs along for the festivities. In addition, 30 businesses will be offering special promotions or hosting “Barket” events, including the newly opened Rideau Pet Valu.
Event Highlights:
• Artisan Market: Over 40 artisans will be featured at the York Street Market by Minerva Ottawa, offering handcrafted goods, including dog-themed products.
• Dog Painting: Watch talented artists capture the charm of dogs in real time.
• Live Entertainment: A variety of performances throughout the day, creating a lively atmosphere for attendees.
• Public Market Vendors: A selection of market vendors will be offering dog treats, dog apparel and accessories, dog-themed products, and services such as grooming and training.
The Dog Fashion Show, hosted by CTV’s Stefan Keyes, and special guest judges Rideau-Vanier Councillor Stéphanie Plante, owner of Stunning Fashion, Mandy Gosewich, Operations Manager at Ottawa Venues, Susan Macleod, and Angie Seymour with AMTI Models. This fun competition will feature stylish pups strutting their stuff, with prizes awarded to the best-dressed dogs. This exciting event starts at 1 PM and takes place in the parking lot beside Ember restaurant.
Top Prizes:
• 1st place: A one-night stay at the dog friendly Fairmont Château Laurier
• 2nd place: Gift basket with Tito’s Vodka products and dog lovers' gifts
• 3rd place: Gift certificate to Tickled Pink Ottawa ($100)
• 4th place: Gift certificates to Ember Ottawa ($25) and Lowertown Brewery ($25)
• 5th place: Gift certificates to Pub 101 ($25) and Tucker’s Marketplace ($25)
In addition, several non-profit organizations and rescue groups will be present at the event, including the Ottawa Humane Society, Canadian Dachshund Rescue Ontario, Ottawa Paw Pantry, and the Ontario Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation. These organizations will be showcasing their missions and engaging with the community to raise awareness and support for animal welfare.
