Position: Digital Media Content Creator (Full-Time)

JOB SUMMARY:  


The ByWard Market district is Ottawa’s number one tourist attraction and the premier destination for shopping, dining, arts, and entertainment for visitors and residents. Established in 2023, the primary role of the ByWard Market District Authority (BMDA) is to serve as the custodians of the vision, vibrancy and economic prosperity of the historic ByWard Market district. Our mission is to connect community, culture, and commerce through meaningful experiences, programs, and events.  

The ByWard Market District Authority (BMDA) is seeking an experienced Digital Media Content Creator to design and execute innovative campaign ideas through compelling storytelling, enhancing the vibrancy and appeal of our district.  

Reporting directly to the Manager of Communications, the role of the Digital Media Content Creator is ideal for someone who thrives in bringing ideas to life. You will be responsible for creating and publishing engaging content across digital media scheduling platforms such as Loomly and Mailchimp.  

This position offers an important role on a variety of projects to help to tell a new story about the ByWard Public Market and the vibrant community we serve.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:    

  • Create and execute a content calendar up to four weeks in advance, ensuring consistent posting and adherence to deadlines.  

  • Manage day-to-day activity on social channels and engage through liking, commenting and sharing.  

  • Conceptualize, script, shoot, and edit short-form videos tailored for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.   

  • Prepare and post well-branded, bilingual content. Arrange translation as required.  

  • Create graphics and touch up photos for small scale campaigns using tools like InDesign and Photoshop.    

  • Coordinate third-party contractors such as graphic designers, and photographers for digital marketing promotions. 

  • Write and curate content for a weekly newsletter featuring district/market events, listicles, and blog-style articles.   

  • Collaborate with the operations team to ensure timely promotion of events.  

  • Track and analyze content performance across all platforms, using insights to refine strategies and improve engagement.   

  • Collaborate with the marketing team on campaigns to ensure brand consistency and strategic alignment.   

  • Stay informed on platform trends, industry best practices, and emerging content styles.   

  • Other duties, as required.  

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Proven experience in content creation, video production, and copywriting.   

  • Ability to edit videos and photos for digital platforms using design tools (ex. Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc.) to craft attention-grabbing visuals. 

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create engaging newsletters, blogs, and social media copy.   

  • Familiarity with platform-specific content requirements and algorithms for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.   

  • Excellent organizational skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.   

  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms like Mailchimp or Constant Contact.   

  • Experience working with non-profits, community organizations, or farmers/public markets.   

  • Passion for local events, markets, and community-building.    

  • While not mandatory, bilingualism (English and French) is an asset, as the BMDA is required to produce all public materials in both official languages.  

EDUCATION: 

A degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.

INTERVIEW PROCESS: 

Our interview process is structured to give us a deeper understanding of your skills and experience while also allowing you to learn more about our team and the position. It includes three distinct stages. 

  • Initial Interview: Your first conversation will be with our Communications Manager and Business Integration Manager. This discussion via a digital platform will focus on your background, technical expertise, and approach to solving problems. 

  • Creative Assignment: If you advance to the next stage, you'll complete a creative assignment to complete on your own time. This step is designed to showcase your practical skills and knowledge related to the role. The assignment is independent of any active projects or marketing work. 

  • Team Introduction: In the final stage, you'll have an informal meeting with the team. This is an opportunity to get a feel for the team dynamic, learn more about the role, and ask any remaining questions about the work environment.
