🚨 NEW SPONSOR ALERT! 🚨

Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers has partnered with Ottawa Markets as a Silver Sponsor!

Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) is a not-for-profit organization, formed in 1967, representing approximately 220 members who grow greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers on over 3000 acres in Ontario, Canada. Their growers span from Windsor to Niagara and as far north as Ottawa.

Ottawa Markets works with local farmers and select wholesalers to sell Canadian-only produce at our markets. This includes many greenhouse products that are available outside of typical growing season and a vital piece of our market landscape.

We are elated to partner with such a wonderful and likeminded organization. Learn more about OGVG in our Community Spotlight below!

Community Spotlight:

As part of our Community Spotlight, we chatted with our new sponsors at Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers and asked them a couple of questions so you could get to know them better!

As an organization, what does supporting local producers and food products mean to you?

Supporting local means that we are investing in our domestic food supply system, and showing our appreciation for our local farmers, food producers and food processors. It is a signal from the consumer that our communities care about purchasing locally grown food.

Why did you decide to partner with Ottawa Markets?

It is a great opportunity to reach high numbers of people from very unique and diverse cultural backgrounds, that can use our fresh vegetables to prepare delicious meals and culinary experiences.

Since forming in 1967, what are the biggest changes that OGVG has noticed in the industry?

Over the past 50+ years, the innovation of greenhouse farming operations in Ontario has become highly specialized. This has resulted in our farms being leaders in agriculture, championing production efficiency, automation, energy efficiencies as well as environmental sustainability.

Where can our readers access the products and growers that OGVG represents?

Readers can access these products at your local grocery stores, and learn more about our members on our website, www.ogvg.com.

Are there any growers in the Ottawa area that we should know about?

Yes there are! SunTech Greenhouses in Manotick, and Forman Farms in Seeley’s Bay.

What’s something cool you wish everyone knew about Ontario greenhouse products?

Ontario greenhouse vegetables can be grown year-round under various lighting recipes, allowing for our products to be available at your local grocery store every month of the year! Oh, and of course that they are great in any dish, for any occasion!
