Community Spotlight:

As part of our Community Spotlight, we chatted with Jill Anguaya, owner of Tickled Pink.

Find her at 55 ByWard Market Square - in the ByWard Market Building.

We asked Jill the following questions:

When did you start your business?
My husband and I took over Tickled Pink in 2012, but it was originally established over 25 years ago!

What inspired you when you started?
Supporting local crafters! Although we had already been in business since 1993, Tickled Pink was our first experience selling locally hand-crafted products from Ottawa and across Canada. We love being able to offer unique items that people really treasure.

Why did you choose ByWard as the home for your business?
The ByWard Market attracted us because of the energy created by the mix of people who frequent the area- it's always got a combination of tourists and visitors, mixed with the locals, who are also a blend of people who live in the area, and people who love to visit the Market from other areas of town. It really has its own unique vibe.

What do you currently specialize in selling?
Tickled Pink specializes in 'fabulous finds for kids of all kinds, and the grown-ups who love them' What does that mean exactly? Picture adorable hand-crafted knits for newborns and toddlers, sparkling magical fairy wings, wands, and swords for hours of kids' independent play time, silly and sassy socks for big people... and the list goes on. Picture #giftsgalore.

What's your hottest product right now?
Well, in the winter, we focus on all things WARM! One of top selling original lines is Lanark Sheepskin slippers hats and mitts for the whole family- they are truly the coziest things you can wear, and handmade right down the road in Lanark County. Also, back in stock are Canada's most beloved infant and toddler slippers as well- the Padraig Cottage slipper <3

What’s the one thing that’s surprised you the most about running a small business?
After nearly 30 years owning and operating a small business- nothing surprises us anymore because only one thing remains the same: Change. There's no "we will just do what we did last year" It's a constant evolution of ideas, challenges, and outcomes- never a dull moment, it certainly keeps us on our toes ;)
