Community Spotlight:
A visit to Sushi Zone with Zackery Liberty
Last week, I had the chance to stop by Sushi Zone in the ByWard Building. Being a sushi fanatic from a young age, I was definitely eager to give it a try. ByWard is full of small eclectic restaurants and exploring its hidden gems is always a good way to spend your lunch hour.
Sushi Zone is located on William and is accessible though the interior of the Market. In the summer when William Street closes, you can find market goers relaxing on Adirondack chairs, soaking in the sun while children hop along the various interactive paintings that decorate the pavement.
In my correspondences with the staff, they mentioned that the restaurant had come under new ownership just this year. I entered to be greeted by friendly smiles and a cozy seat. Given that the noodles are famously hand pulled and made fresh, I opted for their Udon Noodle Soup with beef - and California Rolls for good measure.
While waiting for my meal, I was entertained by the owner preparing the noodles by hand. There's an added element of fun that comes with dining in one of Ottawa's oldest landmarks. Looking up from the seats of Sushi Zone, you can see the second floor of the building - a walkway that now houses a public art exhibit.
the meal was fresh, fairly priced, and the staff were friendly. I'm looking forward to Summer days on William Street, when locals spill into Sushi Zone from the street for a delicious meal.
