Ottawa Markets is seeking candidates to support the upcoming market season. Do you love markets and working with small and local businesses? Do you like working outside and with the public? Then this position might be right for you!

Market Assistants work with the Markets Management Team in the operation and promotion of its two outdoor markets at ByWard and Parkdale. Full and Part-time opportunities are available for the right candidates with up to 40 hours a week from May to October.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Customer Service and Tourism information

  • Assists with vendors placement, attendance, billing & support throughout market day 

  • Market cleanliness and protocol enforcement

  • First Aid and emergency support

  • Clerical support, records keeping

  • Other duties as assigned by Markets Management

Summary of Qualifications

  • Able to demonstrate customer service skills

  • Self-motivated team player, who works well with others and public

  • Able to take initiative and to demonstrate good judgment in responding to situations

  • Willingness to learn market policies and procedures, an interest in local and regional attractions.

  • Looking for diverse candidates that can communicate in English, French or both - other languages considered an asset

  • Photography, social media, graphic/web design experience an asset.

  • Punctuality and flexibility to work mornings, weekends throughout the summer months including most weekends.

Experience

  • Experience with customer service, tourism, retail and or markets are an asset. Strong motivation and a positive are essential.

Salary: $16.50, 40 hours per week seasonal position

Start Date: Training to commence April 25, 2021
